The Department of Horticulture has begun undergraduate education in 1982. Because of contributing to agriculture of region and country, our department improves projects about cultivating, breeding, propagation of fruits, vegetables, grapes and ornamental plants in addition to education. There are 10 professors, 2 associate professor, 4 assistant professors and 4 research assistants in the department. The department has 6 laboratories (Mushroom and micelle production, ornamental plants, physiology 1, physiology 2, pomology and tissue culture) and they are using for both scientific, practice and education activities. Also, we have 1 climate and 1 cold testing chambers. We have 150 m2 greenhouse (for vegetable propagation), 169 m2 greenhouse with 6 rooms (for physiological studies), 12 high plastic tunnels (120 m2)(3 covered with polycarbonate), an ornamental greenhouse with plastic cover (110 m2 with humidity-temperature and irrigation control), a 130 m2 glass greenhouse (automatic floor heating, ventilation and misting system for propagation of seedling, plants, saplings and nursery practices), vineyard (6 decare) and different species of fruits (apple, chestnut, kiwifruit, blackberry, raspberry, autumn olive berry, blueberry. etc.) Orchards are available for field practices. Education and researches are performing about cultivation techniques, propagation, breeding, biotechnology, physiology and postharvest physiology on grape, different fruit and vegetable species with ornamental plants in the Department of Horticulture. Researchers and lecturers have specialized in issues about cultivation and breeding of various vegetables, fruits, grape vines, ornamental plants, hydroponic and organic cultivation in greenhouse, plant physiology, postharvest physiology, vegetable seed production and biotechnology. MsC and PhD education started in the semester of 1987-1988 at the Department of Horticulture.
