Agronomy Department is the first department that it has officially started education at Angricultural Faculty in 1976. In the first there was only Field Crops Breeding and Imrovement main branch but later ıt was divided in to “Cereals and edible Grain legumes”, “Industrial Crops” and “Range-me adow and Forage Crops” main branches. Now, there are 16 academic staff. At he Agronomy Department, it has been bringing up Agricultural Engineers who have enough knowledge and skill full about cereals, legumes, industrial crops and range me adow and forage crops breeding and improvement since 1976. They can also produce knowledge, convert this knowledge to economical benefits respectful to environment, protect the biological diversity and natural resources. In addition, at the department new projects are produced with the aim of to solve regional and national angricultural problems.
Program targets to educate the students and to enable them to produce solutions to the current field crops in agricultural sector based on the knowledge, talents and competencies acquired during the program and use these solutions in their professional life and convey them to related individuals and institutions and improve themselves in line with changing conditions.To become an educational entity that will observe the scientific standards and objectivity in all activities at all times and maintain dialog continuously with the alumni and decision makers in agricultural sector to help find solutions to the important and current economic problems of the sector and renew itself in accordance with the requirements of changing time. The program consist of basic agricultural engineering lessons such as biology , physiology, ecology, soil science, breeding technigues, experiment tecniques and basic field crops lessons about cereals, legumes, industrial crops, grasslands and forage crops breeding and improvement.
Graduates take professional role in establishment of many public and private sector. Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Development, Public and Private Banks, Agro-Industry Enterprises, Agricultural Cooperatives, Control and Certification Bodies, Consulting Firms in agriculture and agro-industry, appraisal firms and non-governmental organizations. Graduates also take place in national and international agricultural development projects that are very much promising.
